INCOMING PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has shot down claims of a plot to stop him from becoming prime minister, saying they were baseless, reported Free Malaysia Today.
He today said he had asked Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid to correct his remarks concerning the supposed plot involving Putrajaya’s chief adviser, Daim Zainuddin.
“I don’t know if he wants to write in or not,” Anwar reportedly said after attending a hearing at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Abdullah had said efforts were ongoing to stop Anwar from succeeding Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
Ijok assemblyman Idris Ahmad, also from PKR, had also charged that Dr Mahathir and Daim had “sponsored” some PKR leaders to destroy the party from within.
Their claims were that both Dr Mahathir and Daim preferred PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to Anwar.
Last week, Dr Mahathir brushed off these allegations.
Both Abdullah and Idris are in the camp supporting Rafizi Ramli, who is challenging Azmin for the PKR deputy president’s post in the party polls.
Rafizi’s camp is campaigning on the platform that only they can ensure Anwar will become the next prime minister.
Pakatan Harapan parties had agreed that Anwar would replace Dr Mahathir as prime minister.
Anwar was in court today over a suit against former Permatang Pauh Umno candidate Mazlan Ismail and private broadcaster TV3.
Mazlan and TV3 proposed to settle the suit out of court, Bernama reported. – August 20, 2018.
