MCA may drop BN logo in Balakong by-election, says Liow

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai says the party will decide whether to use its own logo or the BN logo in the Balakong by-election when it meets to choose a candidate. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 22, 2018.

THERE is a possibility that MCA will ditch the Barisan Nasional logo and go with its own party symbol in the Balakong by-election, said Liow Tiong Lai.

The MCA president said the party will decide this when it meets to pick a candidate.

“We will have a meeting to decide this and pick a candidate for the seat,” The Star Online reported today.

On Friday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said an MCA candidate would contest the seat.

“We know that it’s a difficult task. It’s not easy to win this seat but as a political party, we have the responsibility to provide checks and balances on the government.

“We hope the rakyat can give us the support to fulfil the promises to them,” he was quoted as saying.

The seat fell vacant after incumbent Eddie Ng Tien Chee died in a road accident on Friday morning.

In the 14th general election, Ng polled 41,768 votes while Ibrahim Ghazali of PAS and MCA’s Lim Chin Wah picked up 6,230 and 5,874 votes, respectively. – July 22, 2018.

  • Liow should have let Abang Zahid stand in Balakong since MCA has a proven track record of losing in Chinese majority seats. Perhaps this is a good time to sound out BUMNO 2.0's bangsa and agama agenda.
