A LEBANESE jeweller has filed at US$14.79 million (RM59.8 million) suit against Rosmah Mansor after she failed to return a consignment of 44 pieces of jewellery, which were seized by police, Malaysiakini reports.

In its suit, filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on June 26 through the law firm David Gurupatham and Koay, Global Royalty Trading SAL alleges that the consignment was sent to Rosmah, a regular customer, for her to evaluate and purchase.

Global Royalty sent 44 pieces of jewellery, including diamond necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets and a tiara, each costing between US$124,000 and US$925,000.

An unnamed third party was to pay for the jewellery, if she decides to keep them.

Rosmah, wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, would borrow jewellery, and she or her agent would receive them in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Dubai, the report said.

Global Royalty said Rosmah, in a letter dated May 22, acknowledged receiving those items.

In the suit, Global Royalty sought a declaration that it is the rightful owner of the 44 items of jewellery.

The company further sought a mandatory order for the items to be returned or alternatively, if those items cannot be returned, Rosmah is to pay the amount stated.

The case management will be held today.

Police raided six residences linked to Najib and seized items amounting to RM1.1 billion.

Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Amar Singh said it took police from May 21 to June 25 to ascertain the value of the cash and items seized.

More than 12,000 pieces of jewellery – comprising 2,200 rings, 1,400 necklaces, 2,100 bracelets, 2,800 pairs of earrings,1,600 brooches and 14 tiaras – were seized.

The most expensive item was a necklace valued at nearly RM6 million.

The raids on the residences linked to the former prime minister were part of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigation. – July 10, 2018.

  • Another of the Najib /Rosmah drama. Is that another way for them to deny the jewellery seized was hers?

    • But it is also alleged that an unnamed third party was to pay for the jewellery, if she decides to keep them. Who is this generous third party and for what reason?

    • US$14.79 million (RM59.8 million) is a lot of money for this third party to pay for someone else's wife's jewelries fetish. Why is Najib not even worried?

  • For all you know, this could be the modus operandi which Najib and gang will employ to extricate themselves and explain away the accumulation of items that have been seized. I'm sure it is not too difficult to fine Deeepak Jaikishen-type conmen who will lie through their teeth and sell their souls to the devil for a decent profit. Be prepared for such rogues like this Lebanese fella to come crawling out of the woodwork claiming that the seized items belong to them and not 'innocent' Rosmah.
