Stay mute as more voices muddy 1MDB

The Malaysian Insight

TO  whom it may concern.

Silence is the best strategy when it comes to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and Low Taek Jho.

Saying anything and issuing another statement to explain the lack of action against the financier and pal of Prime Minister Najib Razak only serves to get the authorities twisted in more knots of embarrassment.

Using many words but saying little about Jho Low and 1MDB only serves to annoy and irritate.

Take yesterday’s statement by the Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun.

Now how does it benefit Putrajaya to remind Malaysians that it has been a few years since the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) concluded its probe into the colossal scandal at 1MDB?

Fuzi said Jho Low was not an employee of 1MDB and that decisions made by the state-owned entity were made by the management and board of directors.

No great revelation this because Malaysians have been served this explanation before. The statement only serves to jog our memory and remind us that not one member of the management team or director has been charged with the wrongdoing at 1MDB that has resulted in investigations in 10 countries, the closure of two banks in Singapore and unprecedented action by the US Department of Justice (DoJ).

Fuzi goes on to say that the cops are still investigating the 1MDB case and at this point, there are no strong reasons to link Low with any of the decisions made by 1MDB.

But if any new evidence surfaces, police would take appropriate action against Low. That statement was probably meant to appease millions of Malaysians left incredulous by the lack of action against anyone in Malaysia.

The sentence was probably aimed at assuring Malaysians that the police are on top of matters.

It does neither.

Is it highly doubtful that Low is in the country? Have police interviewed him? Do the cops even know where he is?

Have the cops read the DoJ statement carefully?

Perhaps they should.

The civil suits never accused 1MDB of wrongdoing. It just alleges that individuals pilfered and benefited from the siphoning off funds from 1MDB.

The funds were used to make the Wolf of Wall Street, buy swanky properties, high-end art pieces, a jet and other luxury goods.

Here’s the thing: Malaysians are well read. They have followed the trail of stench for more than three years.

They have had enough of explanations, clarifications and statements.

They understand that in the run-up to GE14, there will attempts to tie up loose ends and give the impression that action is being taken to fix vexing issues.

Been there and seen all this before.

Best treat them with some respect and not offer up statements that only serve to annoy and remind them of how much hasn’t changed in three years. – March 8, 2018.

  • Do any of those in power in Malaysia have any knowledge of history or is it simply they are blinded by greed or fear? Surely they would then think twice about their actions as they propel this beautiful country down a path to ruin. In the space of a week those in positions of leadership have further eroded the respect of the rakyat for the institutions that make a country civilized. Slippery slope getting steeper by the day. The only consolation I have is that if indeed these are God-fearing people then their nights must be full of worries and fears for their day of reckoning.......

  • Obviuosly Jho low is not an employee of 1MDB but an active advisor and a cohort in master minding the devious plan to plunder the country through the association and participation of the authority in charge. Is it not enough to justify the PDRM or MACC calling out the arrest . Jho Low is already implicated in the forfeiture of assets by DOJ and all over the globe arrest and charges are made to culprits associated with him. Is that not enough reasons for PDRM and MACC to take the responsibilities and start doing the job instead of shielding the criminals and their partners in crime with a very lame reasoning and excuses. It is no more just a stench but a "full foul rotting corpses stench of evidence"in the blatant money trail. It is no more an annoyance or irritations by PDRM or MACC by their intentional non actions to shut up the investigations and have a closure to protect the "untouchable one". A weak move hoping that their actions suffice to make the rakyat believe like fools but contrarily it only provokes the rakyat on such preposterous story line. If no arrest is in the agenda than it is left to the Rakyat empowered by the country institution and loyalty to the country and Royal household to save the country by making citizen arrest on him and even his cohorts inclusive of the ex-IGP and the current IGP togather with the MACC. These are all the bad apples in the barrel. Even the Ministers who are vocal in supporting the criminal should be brought to justice There are still good PDRM and MACC personnel who are already disgusted with their bosses indifferent attiude and will be ready to do the job. They are the heros who want to uplift the institution image and clean reputations.
