TO whom it may concern.
Silence is the best strategy when it comes to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and Low Taek Jho.
Saying anything and issuing another statement to explain the lack of action against the financier and pal of Prime Minister Najib Razak only serves to get the authorities twisted in more knots of embarrassment.
Using many words but saying little about Jho Low and 1MDB only serves to annoy and irritate.
Take yesterday’s statement by the Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun.
Now how does it benefit Putrajaya to remind Malaysians that it has been a few years since the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) concluded its probe into the colossal scandal at 1MDB?
Fuzi said Jho Low was not an employee of 1MDB and that decisions made by the state-owned entity were made by the management and board of directors.
No great revelation this because Malaysians have been served this explanation before. The statement only serves to jog our memory and remind us that not one member of the management team or director has been charged with the wrongdoing at 1MDB that has resulted in investigations in 10 countries, the closure of two banks in Singapore and unprecedented action by the US Department of Justice (DoJ).
Fuzi goes on to say that the cops are still investigating the 1MDB case and at this point, there are no strong reasons to link Low with any of the decisions made by 1MDB.
But if any new evidence surfaces, police would take appropriate action against Low. That statement was probably meant to appease millions of Malaysians left incredulous by the lack of action against anyone in Malaysia.
The sentence was probably aimed at assuring Malaysians that the police are on top of matters.
It does neither.
Have the cops read the DoJ statement carefully?
Perhaps they should.
The civil suits never accused 1MDB of wrongdoing. It just alleges that individuals pilfered and benefited from the siphoning off funds from 1MDB.
The funds were used to make the Wolf of Wall Street, buy swanky properties, high-end art pieces, a jet and other luxury goods.
Here’s the thing: Malaysians are well read. They have followed the trail of stench for more than three years.
They have had enough of explanations, clarifications and statements.
They understand that in the run-up to GE14, there will attempts to tie up loose ends and give the impression that action is being taken to fix vexing issues.
Been there and seen all this before.
Best treat them with some respect and not offer up statements that only serve to annoy and remind them of how much hasn’t changed in three years. – March 8, 2018.

Jib n' his frump are dirty crooks from head to rump n' lump,
Price of food, goods and stuff has reduced our living to slump,
That bugger, a thieving knave with an ego that needs a bump!
