UMNO has suspended the party membership of Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who is also known as Papagomo, for six years for breaching the party constitution.

Azri, a youth wing exco member, confirmed his suspension and cynically thanked the party president for it.

“Thank you Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Suspended from party membership for six years,” he said on Twitter.

Media reports said that the suspension was effective August 27.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan is said to have issued the suspension letter to Azri today.

Azri is said to have acted in contravention of the party constitution by disregarding its decisions and instructions, and by failing to protect the party’s name.

Previously, a group of Umno Wangsa Maju members reported Azri to the party’s disciplinary committee for using his Facebook account to encourage Umno grassroots and leaders to co-operate with Bersatu.

Azri, who has denied that he is the blogger who goes by the name “Papagomo”, said he would not be appealing against the suspension.

He is known for his controversial remarks on social media, often touching on protecting race and religion. – September 1, 2021.
