PKR lawmaker Natrah Ismail said two people approached her yesterday asking her to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Sekijang MP said the two told her her constituency would benefit if she switched parties.

“I told them that I was not interested in supporting Muhyiddin Yassin and declined their offer”, the PKR MP said in a statement.

“I will not turn my back on the reforms agenda and the oath that I’ve taken as an MP, regardless of the benefits.”

Natrah said she has reported the matter to the PKR leadership.

She said she believed this was an effort to bribe opposition MPs with positions and when that fails, turn to threatening them.

“It is obvious the current minority government will do anything, except reconvene Parliament as advised by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”

On February 28, two PKR MPs, Julau’s Larry Sng and Tebrau’s Steven Chong, pledged to support Perikatan Nasional as independents.

Sng said the lack of funds for his constituency as an opposition lawmaker was the main reason that he ditched his party.

“I have been unable to serve Julau effectively through lack of much needed development funds. With this move today, I am confident that I will be able to deliver my election promises to my electorate,” Sng said. – March 4, 2021.

  • Well Done YB Natrah. Your own constituents will understand the lack of funds to provide for your constituency. Do some crowd funding and you might get support from the rakyat, like what YB Hannah did. Your constituents will re-elect you because you have solid principles and a good value system. We, the voters look for MPs who have integrity. Just keep saying no to corruption

  • The practice of giving funds to MPs either in opposition or in government is facilitating corruption and party hopping. It must be regulated at a very low level and the same for all elected MPs otherwise Malaysia will constantly be in crisis.
