SENIOR Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob asked if opposition lawmakers now speaking on behalf of foreigners, after two Pakatan Harapan MPs questioned his statement in allowing housing management to compel residents into submitting their Covid-19 report.
Ismail Sabri was referring to Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
Yesterday, PKR’s Fahmi said the policy must be reviewed as it could discriminate against residents who cannot afford to pay the testing cost.
DAP’s Hannah, on the other, hand stated that the policy would be an inconvenience for tenants, adding it was not based on scientific methods.
In a Twitter post, Ismail Sabri shot back saying both statements from the opposition MPs were misleading.
“For Hannah Yeoh and Fahmi Fadzil, they are fighters for foreigners. Maybe they are the people’s representatives for foreigners, not Malaysians.”
“To them, the cost which the foreigners will bear is more important than the lives of Malaysians,” he tweeted.
In a press conference yesterday, Ismail Sabri announced that management of condominiums and residential complexes could make rules that will ensure the safety of their residents.
He said this is allowed although there is no directive from the government.
He added that the management could also force foreign residents to undergo Covid-19 tests as condominiums or apartments were private areas.
It had been reported that the management of several condominiums have made it mandatory for their tenants to undergo Covid-19 screening. – January 29, 2021.
