PARTI Warisan Sabah will expand to Peninsular Malaysia, said its president Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“This move is necessary as it is time for Sabah’s leaders to show that they are not merely followers of the federal government but can determine what happens with the 1963 Malaysia Agreement issues,” said the former Sabah chief minister on Facebook today.

Shafie, who lost Sabah to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition in September, said Warisan’s new direction is to help the 300,000 Sabahans who work in Peninsular Malaysia.

“I met with many Sabahans in Kuala Lumpur the past week and many asked for Warisan to represent them,” said the former Umno vice-president.

“As a party that is multiracial and multi-religious, Warisan is qualified to represent all Malaysians.

“Warisan used the unity concept during the recent Sabah state elections and emerged as the biggest single party,” he added.

In the state elections, Warisan won 29 out of 73 seats while its allies PKR and Upko won two and one seats respectively.

GRS, however, bagged 38 with Perikatan Nasional taking 17, BN (14) and PBS (7).

At the federal level, Warisan has 8 seats in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat. – December 12, 2020.

  • Shafie Apdal does not carry the baggage that the current lot of leaders have.
He would be a welcome change for all Malaysians, not just East Malaysians.

  • The 300,000 Sabahans are disenfranchised because they cannot vote. If Shafie is sincere he should first fight for the postal vote for all.
