PKR president Anwar Ibrahim became a bitter person after his release from prison and this led to Minister for International Trade and Industry Mohamed Azmin Ali leaving his long-time mentor, he told The Star in an interview published today.

“I have served him for 30 years, officially for 15 years when (he) held the posts of education and finance ministers, and deputy prime minister,” said Azmin, who was also one of PKR’s founding members.

“I also took care of his family when he was in prison. I thought after he was released from prison, he would come out a better person.

“Unfortunately, he became a bitter person – not only for me but for the whole nation,” he said.

Azmin also alleged that other members of Anwar’s original team had grown disillusioned with the PKR leader and left, so it was not fair to single him out.

The minister, widely credited as the mastermind behind the infamous Sheraton Move, left PKR in February and later joined Bersatu. – November 29, 2020.
