SELANGOR has disagreed with Putrajaya’s decision to impose a conditional movement-control order (CMCO) on the entire state and will submit counter-proposals to the National Security Council (NSC).
Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said this was because several areas in Selangor are still green or yellow zones, where Covid-19 cases are under control.
“The announcement that CMCO will be imposed on the whole of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya comes as a surprise to the state government.
“The state government feels that there are several zones in Selangor which are still green and yellow and are under control.
“Therefore, the state government will send a counter proposal to the NSC immediately for reconsideration,” he said in a statement.
Amirudin was responding to the CMCO announced by senior minister and NSC spokesman Ismail Sabri Yaakob this afternoon.
The CMCO in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will begin on Wednesday until October 27.
The menteri besar said he had just finished chairing a meeting of the state NSC with the Selangor health department, police, armed forces and other agencies on implementation of the CMCO in the Petaling district.
He said the meeting had only focused on the Covid-19 situation in Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat and parts of Petaling that have a high number of cases.
“We urge for effective crisis communication so that all parties can be on the same page and prevent any inconsistencies or indecisiveness (in implementation) that will cause impact to frontliners, the public and small and medium enterprises,” Amiruddin added.
Selangor today recorded 69 new cases out of the country’s total 563 fresh infections.
According to the Health Ministry, Selangor has only two red zones as of October 11, in Petaling and Klang. The rest of the state’s districts are in the yellow zone, while Sabak Bernam is in the green zone.
Cumulatively, the country’s total number of Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic has breached 16,000. – October 12, 2020.
