PAS stands to lose in the 14th general election by working with Umno, which it once condemned as a party of infidels, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The former prime minister, who now heads the Pakatan Harapan opposition pact, on his blog said the Islamist party was supporting Umno by contesting in GE14 to take away votes meant for PH.
“PAS, by contesting in GE14, will reduce the number of votes for PH and will give victory to (Prime Minister) Najib (Razak).
“PAS itself will lose.”
The Bersatu chairman said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had, at one time, called Umno a party of infidels and tried to incite violence by calling on his party’s members to be willing to “die a martyr’s death” (mati syahid) in opposing Umno.
This message by Hadi, now known as “Amanat Hadi”, had inspired the Memali tragedy in 1985, when police laid siege on religious extremists, resulting in 14 dead, including the group’s leader, Ibrahim Libya, and four policemen.
“It is clear that ‘Amanat Hadi’ and Hadi’s teachings are the cause of the Memali incident. Hadi should feel regret that he had caused violence, and the deaths of policemen and civilians,” said Dr Mahathir.
“
“That is why Hadi is not in jail.”
He repeated his call for a royal commission of inquiry into the Memali incident, saying Hadi should face questioning over his role in the episode.
“If there is anyone who ought to be investigated over Memali, it should be Abdul Hadi Awang, the leader of PAS.
“But now, he is working with Umno and the Umno-led government, which he once called infidels.” – December 8, 2017.

"Memali incident is Hadi's fault, I'm not responsible in anything as usual during my tenure as PM"
