THE government will ensure that financial aid for the elderly is sufficient for their care, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the government will also monitor that incentives for the caregivers is sufficient.

This was decided at a meeting of the National Social Council as Malaysia faces an ageing population by 2030, he said in a statement after chairing the meeting in Putrajaya today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said the National Social Council also agreed that the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will compile data on senior citizens for the provision of their needs.

“The government welcomes and supports the provision of social infrastructure facilities for senior citizens by state and local authorities,” he said. – Bernama, November 24, 2017.
