THE wet market on Jalan Othman, Petaling, Jaya will remain closed until everyone who has visited the market from April 5 to 18 has been screened for Covid-19.

The screening process will involve about 1,500 people, including traders and members of the public, said Petaling disaster management committee chairman Johary Anuar.

This comes after the Petaling district health department received confirmation late last night of four Covid-19 cases from screenings carried out at the market on April 29.

The market, which is also known as the PJ Old Town market, was originally closed on Monday for disinfection after a 51-year-old trader from the fish section tested positive for Covid-19.

Johary, who is also Petaling district officer, said at the time the closure would be for five days, adding that the infected trader was probably part of the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market Covid-19 cluster.

There are 578 market traders at the Jalan Othman wet market. – May 1, 2020.
