28 Covid-19 cases detected in northern KL, says Noor Hisham

A TOTAL of 28 positive Covid-19 cases and one fatality has been registered at the northern Kuala Lumpur area, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said a total of 2,064 samples were taken from residents in the area, which was placed under an enhanced movement-control order today. 

He said of this figure, 20 cases were detected yesterday, while eight more were confirmed today.

The deceased was a Myanmar national who was treated at Selayang Hospital.

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said 90% of the people living there are migrants, as well as Rohingya refugees and others with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees cards.

A crisis management centre will be established to help people there with their needs, he added.

“We will be placing 500 personnel from various agencies to monitor the roadblocks in the area. 

“We will also ensure they can buy food items. Food aid such as rice, cooking oil and flour will be provided to those in need.” 

Annuar also asked all employers in the area to send their workers for health checks. 

The EMCO is in effect until May 3. – April 20, 2020.
