Barbed wire goes up around KL wholesale market, Selayang areas

THE Kuala Lumpur wholesale market in Selayang and its surrounding areas have been cordoned off by barbed wire while the residents wait to be told whether they are under an enhanced movement control order.

Security forces were seen in the area while the entrances to the wholesale market have been blocked.

Batu MP P. Prabakaran told The Malaysian Insight the area has been locked down since 2am.

Prabakaran said he had heard from the residents that the areas surrounding the wholesale market, Kg Selayang Lama and Taman Seri Murni have been placed under lockdown.

He is waiting for the National Security Council to confirm the news.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Vegetables Wholesalers Association chairman Wong Keng Fatt, said traders were at first told to shut down yesterday and today.

However, this has since been extended to 12am on April 24.

City Hall said in a notice to wholesale market licence holders that the Health Ministry had ordered a temporary closure of the market.

The closure is effective from 8am today until 12am on April 24.

“Loading lorries and licence holders are not allowed to enter the vicinity of the market for the stipulated dates and time,” the notice read. – April 20, 2020.
