JB resident among 2 new coronavirus cases in Singapore

SINGAPORE’S Health Ministry today confirmed two new cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus in the republic, bringing the total to 47.

It said one of the new positive cases involved a 35-year-old male Singapore permanent resident who lives in Johor Baru and works at Resorts World Sentosa Casino, 8 Sentosa Gateway.

The man had no recent travel history to China and is currently warded in an isolation room at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), the ministry said.

The patient reported symptoms on February 5, and sought treatment at a general practitioner (GP) clinic on February 9.

He was transferred to Tan Tock Seng Hospital the same day, and was immediately isolated before subsequent test results confirmed infection yesterday.

The other new case involved a 39-year-old male Bangladeshi Singapore work pass holder and had with no recent travel history to China.

He was a contact of case No. 42, a 39-year-old male Bangladeshi confirmed to be infected on February 8.

Prior to hospital admission, he had gone to work at 10 Seletar Aerospace Heights, the same location where Case 42 worked.

The ministry also reported that two patients have been discharged, bringing the total of those who have recovered to nine.

In Thailand, a new coronavirus case was reported today, bringing the tally to 33. 

Director-general of the Disease Control Department Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai said the patient is a 54-year-old Chinese tourist from Wuhan who travelled to Thailand before the city was locked down.

“The patient had shown coronavirus symptoms and she was admitted at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute in Nonthaburi Province on February 6.

Suwannachai said 10 patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospital. – Bernama, February 11, 2020.
