Putra Mosque closed to visitors over virus fears

PUTRA Mosque in Putrajaya was closed to non-Muslim visitors from 2pm today until further notice following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus originating from Wuhan, China.

A mosque management spokesman said the mosque premises will only be opened for prayers.

Non-Muslim visitors will only be allowed outside the building (before the guard post) to take photographs, he said.

Meanwhile, checks by Bernama found the vicinity of Putra Mosque and Dataran Putra crowded with visitors, with many taking advantage of the long weekend in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration to visit the spot.

Four Chinese nationals visiting Malaysia are confirmed to have contracted the virus. – Bernama, January 26, 2020.
