ZURAIDA Kamaruddin’s status in PKR is not on the agenda of the central leadership committee meeting today, said vice-president Chang Lih Kang.

He emerged briefly from the meeting that is taking place at the party’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya to address reporters and the two groups of pro- and anti-Zuraida protesters outside the building.

“Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wanted me to tell them (protesters) that, point taken, and that there is no agenda for expulsion today,” Chang told reporters.

He hoped the two groups would disperse.

“We ask them to disperse. This is just a regular MPP meeting.”

Zuraida, who is a PKR vice-president and also housing and local government minister, is facing calls from some members to be sacked over her speech at a dinner last month in which she allegedly tarnished Anwar.

This morning, a group held a protest outside the party headquarters shouting for her expulsion from the party. Some of them faced off and exchanged heated words with members of another group in support of Zuraida.

It was speculated that the central leadership committee would discuss the calls to sack her at its meeting today.

Zuraida is currently in Kimanis, Sabah.

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, with whom Zuraida is known to be aligned, is also absent from today’s meeting.
