‘SERIOUS threats’ have been made against Chinese education group Dong Zong, and the police have been alerted, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today.
He said Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has confirmed the threats.
“I have today checked with MCMC and can confirm that they have forwarded the necessary details required in this case to the police for their further action and that MCMC is ready to assist the police further in any way if required,” Gobind said in a statement on his Facebook page.
“In the case of Dong Zong, serious threats were made against them.”
He said the constitution protected Malaysians’ right to assembly, and action should be taken against those who threatened this right.
“I am of the view that action should be taken in this case. I therefore hope the police and AG (attorney-general) will act on this matter as soon as possible,” he added.
Gobind’s statement was attached to a news report about the concerns of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) over the police’s move to stop Dong Jiao Zong’s Jawi congress, as well as the force’s failure to act against groups that have threatened Dong Jiao Zong. Suhakam said it feared that the police’s actions would embolden the these groups.
The umbrella group of Chinese vernacular school teachers and school committees, Dong Jiao Zong, of which Dong Zong is part, was to have held a congress last Saturday at the New Era College in Kajang to discuss the introduction of Jawi in the vernacular schools.
It was called off at the eleventh hour after police obtained a court order to stop the event.
Dong Jiao Zong is against the Education Ministry’s plan to introduce Jawi to Year Four pupils in the Chinese and Tamil schools next year.
Earlier today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party was disappointed that the police had resorted to obtaining a court order to prevent the event from taking place, saying the right to freedom of speech was supposed to be upheld in “New Malaysia”. – December 30, 2019.

DR M main jon today seems to be splitting up Malaysia into pieces, and looks like noone can stop him from doing everything wrong in nation building-hatred,racism,divisiveness and outright corruption in seeking his own agenda is very much his policy. His friend Mugabe is gone, perhaps we can have divine intervention to reunite these 2 in another place!
