‘Serious threats’ made against Chinese education group opposed to Jawi

Police are deployed outside the Dong Jiao Zong office in Kajang on Saturday, after a conference to discuss the introduction of Jawi in the vernacular schools, is disallowed by the court on the grounds it would cause unrest. ‘SERIOUS threats’ have been made against Chinese education group Dong Zong, and the police have been alerted, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today.

He said Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has confirmed the threats.

“I have today checked with MCMC and can confirm that they have forwarded the necessary details required in this case to the police for their further action and that MCMC is ready to assist the police further in any way if required,” Gobind said in a statement on his Facebook page.

“In the case of Dong Zong, serious threats were made against them.”

He said the constitution protected Malaysians’ right to assembly, and action should be taken against those who threatened this right.

“I am of the view that action should be taken in this case. I therefore hope the police and AG (attorney-general) will act on this matter as soon as possible,” he added.

Gobind’s statement was attached to a news report about the concerns of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) over the police’s move to stop Dong Jiao Zong’s Jawi congress, as well as the force’s failure to act against groups that have threatened Dong Jiao Zong. Suhakam said it feared that the police’s actions would embolden the these groups.

The umbrella group of Chinese vernacular school teachers and school committees, Dong Jiao Zong, of which Dong Zong is part, was to have held a congress last Saturday at the New Era College in Kajang to discuss the introduction of Jawi in the vernacular schools.

It was called off at the eleventh hour after police obtained a court order to stop the event.

Dong Jiao Zong is against the Education Ministry’s plan to introduce Jawi to Year Four pupils in the Chinese and Tamil schools next year.

Earlier today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party was disappointed that the police had resorted to obtaining a court order to prevent the event from taking place, saying the right to freedom of speech was supposed to be upheld in “New Malaysia”. – December 30, 2019.

  • The anti DZ groups have been emboldened to make violent threats. This is a result of the Police's inaction to act against them within the ambit of the law. The ball is now in the IGP's court. Will he take action to defend the citizens' rights under the Constitution?

  • NGOs internationally are monitoring the situation in Malaysia on "violent" threats made to Malaysian minorities by radical islamic groups that do not believe in the freedom of speech and assembly. As in 13th May 1969, they suggest by their actions that they will kill, maim and injure Malaysians of Non-Muslim faith. These groups if not arrested , charged and if found guilty fined/imprisoned/caned-will do it again. Additionally, the world global movement will perceive this failure as government sponsored groups. This is what you reap when you invited a known terrorist supporter in Zakir Naik and call him an icon-when he has called for jihad against Non-Muslims, Jews , the USA and receives his training from radical ulamaks from Pakistan, Britain and other dangerous sources. Police should immediately investigate and arrest. ISIS. Al Qaeda may use this opportunity to escalate the problems.

  • What about the Prime Minister who initiated the protests to the chinese educationists' gathering? On an earlier occasion he had called them "racists". On this occasion he said there would be chaos if the meeting is held which will offend the Malays and who will then react in "a very Malay way" ! What did he mean by REACT IN A VERY MALAY WAY??? Please give a piece of mind to your and our Prime Minister not to make such statements which have the effect of encouraging racial rowdies to make threats. Actually it was the Prime Minister who didn't want the meeting to be held. What about "action" on the Prime Minister ? The rowdies would not have felt so brave and secure without those words of the Prime Minister. The police, even if they had wanted to stop the rowdies, could not do so because the Prime Minister's message was that the meeting should not be allowed to go on. So the police had no choice but to get a court order to stop it. Don't turn a blind eye to what made the rowdies to demand that the meeting be stopped - they were carrying out the wishes of the Prime Minister.

  • The last time the Police were under the employ and instruction of Najib-we saw how he is now a main suspect of murdering the Mongolian model, today DR M runs the Police department-he chose the IGP. Now the IGP works for the PM. What a farce we have in Malaysia today.

DR M main jon today seems to be splitting up Malaysia into pieces, and looks like noone can stop him from doing everything wrong in nation building-hatred,racism,divisiveness and outright corruption in seeking his own agenda is very much his policy. His friend Mugabe is gone, perhaps we can have divine intervention to reunite these 2 in another place!
