DISCIPLINARY action will be taken against Ronnie Liu for his remarks on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Bersatu, said Anthony Loke.

The DAP national organising secretary said the Sg Pelek assemblyman’s statement was made in his personal capacity, and that it was irresponsible and could destabilise Pakatan Harapan.

“It does not reflect DAP’s stance. The statement should never have been uttered by any DAP or PH leader.

“PH comprises four parties – Bersatu, Amanah, DAP and PKR – and we won the 14th general election through the people’s mandate. No PH leader, including from DAP, can question this.

“Liu’s statement is seen by the party leadership as an act of sabotage, and we find it a serious matter. As national organising secretary, I will refer him to DAP’s disciplinary committee,” he told reporters after launching the Port Klang Free Zone Transformation Master Plan today.

Loke, who is also transport minister, said he will refer Liu to the DAP board immediately.

Liu created a stir with his recent opinion piece, in which he criticised Dr Mahathir and warned Bersatu against making decisions that are not aligned with PH values.

If the pact breaks up due to the prime minister’s actions, he said, Bersatu, of which Dr Mahathir is chairman, has the most to lose.

He added that other PH components could face snap elections without the party.

The remarks caused anger in Bersatu, with members Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman hitting out at the DAP man.

“The remarks by Liu were disrespectful and uncalled for. This kind of behaviour is ruining the situation,” said Maszlee in a statement this morning.

“It creates friction and causes problems for our Reformasi agenda.”

Syed Saddiq, who is the party’s Youth chief, slammed Liu for being disrespectful.

“Bersatu Youth will not hesitate to act against this rude attack.”

Loke said the DAP disciplinary board will decide the appropriate action to be taken against Liu.
