IT WILL not be easy for Pakatan Harapan to repeat the sweet success of GE14 in the next general election because its performance will be the key determinant of its future, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad this evening.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the gala premiere for the M for Malaysia documentary, Dr Mahathir said PH was able to seal its victory in GE14 due to the Najib Razak factor.

“In that election, the main issue was Najib. In GE15, he will not have a (track) record during that period of time. People will be assessing the performance of Pakatan Harapan,” he said.

“It need not be easy. The second time is never easy,” he said, using the difficulty of the Alliance Party coalition – the precursor of Barisan Nasional – in repeating its success in its second general election after independence.

He said the ruling coalition will have to perform.

However, he acknowledged that some things will take many years to come to fruition, especially when it comes to recovering financial losses from the legacy issues inherited from the previous government.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said M for Malaysia was factual and not one sided, because it highlighted both the good and bad, adding that it’s also a lesson for a person to accept criticism as much as praise.

The 90-minute documentary, which recounts the formation of an unlikely coalition between former political adversaries and their unprecedented victory, documents the key moments that transpired during the campaign and PH’s eventual victory on May 9, 2018.

M for Malaysia was produced and directed by Dian Lee and Dr Mahathir’s granddaughter Ineza Roussille. – September 10, 2019.

  • Dr M, if your board of cabinets r keeping implementing just for the sake projects, your chances of winning the next ge 15 even harder; for example, flying car projects, black and white
shoes, opening hotel pools for public or unstable policies and creating extraordinary positions at ministries. Pls listen to your voters.

  • Dr M, you are worried about the outcome of GE15 and you have admitted it will be harder...rightfully so.. it is time for Dr M to listen to the ppl.. what their bread and butter issues are... everything is not about 1MDB and Najib.. you should:
    1. Allow performing ministers to do their jobs, dont intervene. Give recognition to the ministers
    2. Remove nonperforming ministers and deputy ministers.
    3. Address all bread and butter issues faced by the people. Establish a watch group to compile all issues/concerns.. and provide resolutions
    4. Establish 3 key new projects for each ministry. Everything should not be reactive. There must be proactiveness by ministries.
    5. Carry on with the 1MDB trial and others.

  • So why did Tun M get angry with Rais Hussein when he told the truth that PH wont win if the GE was called today? Now he himself is admitting it. RH is vindicated.

  • It was truly magnanimous of PKR and DAP to accept Bersatu under their umbrella and allow Tun to lead PH grouping in GE14. All the past sins were more or less forgiven. Tun had a free hand in appointing ministers and heads. The second time that is mentioned above is fully depending on Tun and his leadership. The PKR and DAP were a winning formula and they can do it a second time, even on their own.
