A RIFT is opening in Umno, with Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam openly attacking party Youth chief Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki for asking party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to go on leave until his criminal charges are settled.
Responding to Asyraf’s press conference earlier today, Lokman said he was disappointed with the Youth wing for daring to suggest that Zahid take a break from presidential duties until he completes the court process for his 45 charges.
“Umno Youth, under Asyraf, should be defending Malay rights, upholding Bahasa Malaysia as the national language, defending the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, but unfortunately, when our president is under pressure, we behave like scum (bangsat) and ask our president to go on leave,” Lokman said in a video posted on his Facebook page tonight.
“I ask you Asyraf, what is your agenda? What are you thinking?”
Lokman said he was willing to quit his seat on the council to challenge Asyraf in a re-election to lead Umno Youth.
“I dare you to step down, go for re-election. I will resign from my post and challenge you for the Umno Youth chief post,” said Lokman.
Lokman has been a strident defender of former Umno chief Najib Razak since Barisan Nasional’s downfall in the 14th general election, and has been rallying groups of supporters to show solidarity as the former prime minister underwent questioning at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and courthouse when he was charged.
Najib now faces 38 charges for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving funds from 1Malaysia Development Bhd as well as money from government coffers.
Zahid is facing 45 charges for the same offences involving money from a foundation he was trustee of and kickbacks for projects while he was home minister.
Lokman said Asyraf was “blinded by the lies of Pakatan Harapan” if he could not see how the new government was persecuting Zahid.
“I have said that if there are still Umno leaders who cannot see that these charges against Najib and now against Zahid are political persecution, they better kill themselves, metaphorically speaking.
“Unfortunately, the Umno Youth chief today, he, who should be fighting for the people, has been blinded by the lies of Pakatan Harapan.” – October 25, 2018.
