Cheaper eats as zero-rated GST comes into effect
EVEN before the zero-rating of the goods and services tax (GST), which comes into effect today, nasi kandar operators had already been revising their food prices.
In Penang, Nasi Kandar Nasmir had revised the prices of every item on its menu in the days before June 1, said its owner Kadhar Shah Abdul Razak.
In Kuala Lumpur, certain mamak (Indian Muslim) eateries are also following suit in dropping their prices.
Mohamed Husen, who owns Husen Cafe in Jalan Thambipillay, Brickfields, said he had never increased the prices of food for years. In fact, he is planning to reduce few cents on certain food items. - June 1, 2018.
