UMNO need not be embarrassed any more as Najib Razak is no longer its president or the prime minister, said a Johor Youth delegate.
“If Najib was the problem (leading to Barisan Nasional’s 14th general election loss), he is now no longer the prime minister or our president. There’s no problem now, and we should not feel shy about meeting voters again,” said state Youth deputy chief Bastien Onn.
“If voters punished us because of Najib, we can tell them that he’s no longer the Umno president or prime minister. Don’t shun voters as we need them,” he said during the Youth congress today.
He said two factors that led to Umno and BN losing power was the perception towards Najib and the promises made by Pakatan Harapan.
Bastien said Najib was accused of being a thief.
“Those on the outside said Umno had failed to manage Najib. As such, they used the elections to punish him.
“He is now facing charges, and has a chance to clear himself of the slanderous allegations.”
He urged Youth delegates not to “laugh” at voters who found themselves “cheated” by PH’s promises.
He questioned the Umno leadership’s rush to work with PAS and open the party to other races.
“Why do we want to open the party to 16-year-olds? Is this the cause of our defeat?” – September 29, 2018.
