BUKIT Aman Commercial Crimes Investigations Department (CCID) director Amar Singh was taken aback by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin’s racial slur against him in their ongoing spat over money seized during raids at premises belonging to former prime minister Najib Razak.
The latest salvo from Raja Petra had come following Amar Singh’s challenge for the former to produce evidence for his accusations that the police had stolen over RM40 million while investigating Najib.
Raja Petra in his portal Malaysia Today stated Amar Singh’s “turban must be too tight that it is restricting the flow of blood to his brain” in the war of words over the alleged theft.
“This Amar Singh needs to remove his turban to clear his brain once in a while,” the reputedly pro-Najib blogger added.
Amar Singh, in a post in his Facebook page today, expressed surprise at the attack on his race.
“Even more surprising is when RPK snaps back with a demeaning and derogatory statement to ridicule a person due to race… whatever respect left is lost because ‘racist and discriminatory remarks are the weapons used by the weak, the maximum of hatred for the minimum of reason’,” Amar Singh wrote.
“The Sikhs hold the turban in very high regard. Don’t ridicule and try to undermine us… we have much stronger grit and courage in us,” Amar Singh, who heads the police investigation into Najib and his role and alleged theft of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) fund, added.
Yesterday, Amar Singh had challenged Raja Petra to lodge a police report in Malaysia if he had the evidence to back up his claim the police stole over RM40 million from Najib in a series of raids on properties linked to the former prime minister.
Amar Singh also said Raja Petra should be prepared to face the consequences if his report was found to be untrue.
The blogger, who is residing abroad, had said in a post that the police seized RM160 million in cash in the raids, but declared they only confiscated RM116.7 million.
Amar Singh dismissed the allegation, saying that any theft was impossible as the counting was done under 100 closed-circuit television cameras and moving RM43.3 million would not have escaped the attention of media personnel as it would require 10 to 15 bags to move the money.
Umno had last week filed a lawsuit against the police and the government to claim RM160 million that the party said was stored by Najib on the party’s behalf in one of the raided condominium units.
The party said that Najib as the Umno president held RM160 million in trust for the party as the remainder of its funds for the 14th general election. – September 29, 2018.
