POLICE questioned former 1MDB president and chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy over two days as part of their ongoing probe into the financial impropriety at the state fund.
Arul Kanda was called in yesterday and today for questioning, said Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh.
Amar did not provide futher details but it is learned that Arul Kanda was questioned on a variety of issues pertaining to 1Malaysia Development Bhd, including his public talks regarding the fund in the run-up to the 14th general election.
It is also believed that Arul Kanda may be charged with criminal breach of trust based on the outcome of the probe.
Arul Kanda, who was brought in by former prime minister Najib Razak to implement a rationalisation plan for 1MDB in January 2015, was sacked by the new Pakatan Harapan government in June.
The sacking took place two days before his contract was to end on June 30.

Before joining 1MDB, Arul Kanda headed the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank’s investment banking and corporate finance division.
Weeks before GE14, Arul Kanda gave a series of talks and media interviews to defend Najib and 1MDB, and accused the opposition of spreading lies about the fund.
After GE14, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng described Arul as “utterly dishonest and untrustworthy” following a meeting between the two.
Yesterday, Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, was questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for more than 13 hours at its headquarters in Putrajaya.
Najib, who headed the 1MDB advisory board, is so far facing 32 charges related to the 1MDB scandal and the RM2.6 billion donation deposited into his bank account.
Police today said the former prime minister is facing more charges. – September 27, 2018.
