WORKS Minister Baru Bian has called for investigations into his political secretary, Zakaria Abdul Hamid, accused of offering contracts in exchange for support in the ongoing PKR elections.

Baru said a report lodged earlier today with the anti-graft authorities against a minister’s political secretary involved Zakaria.

“If the report lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has basis, I stress that investigations should be done immediately because it involves the good name of my ministry.

“If it is true, as reported, I will not tolerate it. The law must take its course,” Baru said in a statement tonight.

This morning, PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Razab lodged a report with the MACC over a minister’s political secretary who offered a RM20,000 contract and other projects to be distributed among party leaders in Pahang, from where he comes.

Syukri said the contracts were offered because of the party polls.

Baru tonight confirmed that Zakaria was contesting the post of Bera branch chief and for a seat in the central leadership committee.

Zakaria told The Malaysian Insight after Syukri’s report that such reports were common during party elections.

“This is the election season, so many things happen,” he said. – September 25, 2018.
