FORMER Tabung Haji chairman Azeez Abdul Rahim was arrested this morning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), said sources.
Sources also said Azeez, who is also Baling MP, was arrested along with one of his brothers.
The Malaysian Insight was informed that both brothers were arrested at 11am today.
They will be held overnight at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya before being brought to court for remand application.
In May, just after the new Pakatan Harapan government won federal power, the MACC raided at least three properties linked to Azeez – his homes in Subang Jaya and Baling, Kedah, as well as his office in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
The raiding party seized RM500,000, at least 20 wristwatches and almost RM1.2 million in foreign currencies from Bangladesh, Maldives, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
Azeez later said the money belonged to Umno Baling which he had withdrawn for zakat payment ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

He tendered his resignation as Tabung Haji chairman on May 14 this year. – September 25, 2018.
