Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim says today there was good reason to raid the home of the former prime minister's mother in relation to their investigations into 1MDB. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, September 21, 2018.

POLICE had every reason to search the house of Rahah Mohamad Noah yesterday as part of their investigations into 1MDB, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

He said former prime minister Najib Razak’s mother Rahah was cooperative and police were polite and sought her permission before the raid.

“We went to the house after we received enough information from our investigations.

“We felt that the house must be searched,” Noor Rashid told the media after an event today.

He also refuted claims that the police were unprofessional while searching the house as most of the family members were at the court for Najib’s 25 new charges.

“We did not barge into her house. We were professional and we advised Tun Rahah and we received very good feedback,” he added.

Noor Rashid disclosed that no documents or items were taken from the house.

Najib’s son, Norashman, vented his anger at police for raiding his grandmother’s home yesterday.

“Please leave my grandmother out of this!! Raided her house when we were in court??” Norashman, or better known as Ashman, posted on Instagram.

Najib’s daughter Nooryana also took to social media over the incident.

“We wonder why there are no pictures of the raid. The reason? Because nothing was found and the cops left empty-handed.

“Is it necessary for an 87-year-old woman to go through such a bitter experience?” she asked in her Instagram post.

Rahah lives in Jalan Eaton in Kuala Lumpur. The raid was reportedly carried out by a 14-man team.

It took place at about the same time Najib was in the sessions court facing fresh corruption and money-laundering charges. – September 21, 2018.

  • Najib two children are using the grandmother as a factor to garner sympathy. It dos'nt work that way. A crime if needs to be investigated be it anyones home, it has to be done. No demarcation. Do not use the excuse that she is the late 2nd PM spouse. If the sons of Razak and his grandchildren knows how good it is to maintain the reputation of their late father and not to tarnish all what he has done -- stay away from doing crime. PDRM is commendable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Doing their job without fear and favour

  • A fairly secretive operation by PDRM. Easier to manage with less people in the house as dealing with them may hamper evidence gathering. None found, but it is still part of police work when leaving no stone unturned and ruling out possibilities. So in 1MDB kind of "mystery' situation anything goes and everything helps..

  • No need for Norashman to get mad and Yananajib to feel said. Perhaps Nenek still remember how Anwar was arrested from his house in a commando raid. Standard SOP - Polis are just doing their job within the rule of law.

  • Yes. Police has the duty to search any house if it suspects hiding of loots. You mother, Najib, has no special privilege. She is not a royalty, but even royalty is subject to nation's law.
