MUSTAPA Mohamed said today he will cooperate with police investigations into funds allegedly channelled from 1MDB into the Kelantan Umno liaison committee.

The former Umno Supreme Council member said he would assist police in his capacity as the former Umno Kelantan state liaison chief.

“Though I am no longer with Umno, I will continue to give my cooperation in this matter,” he said in a brief statement tonight.

The statement comes hours after Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa implied that the former trade and industry minister dumped the party over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd investigation.

Annuar said the Jeli MP was recently investigated along with others over funds the state chapter received prior to the 14th general election.

“I know Tok Pa (Mustapa) didn’t leave because Umno worked with PAS. The issue wasn’t that,” Annuar told a press briefing at the Umno headquarters today.

Mustapa and two other party leaders allegedly received a substantial amount prior to the elections.

When asked if this was the reason Mustapa resigned, Annuar said he didn’t know.

“Many others were investigated but they didn’t quit,”   said the Ketereh MP.

“Maybe they can’t handle the stress,” he added.
