REMBAU lawmaker Khairy Jamaluddin said today he has no intentions of quitting Umno, adding that he would not have attended a party meeting if that were the case.
He also tweeted a photo of him and other party leaders having a discussion on the alternative budget.
“Discussion to prepare the alternative budget for the upcoming Parliament session,” he tweeted.
“If I wanted to quit Umno, I would not have come to the political bureau meeting today,” the former Umno Youth leader later told reporters at the Putra World Trade Centre where the meeting had taken place.
Khairy also said he hoped there would not be an exodus from Umno.
“I hope all elected representatives will remain with BN. We must be a credible opposition.
“We have to show to the rakyat that we can play the role of an effective opposition.”
Among those in Khairy’s tweet were Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, secretary-general Annuar Musa, vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Hamzah Zainuddin, Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Yesterday, senior leader and Jeli MP Mustapa Mohamed said he was quitting Umno after more than 40 years of service to the party.
This was followed by Kimanis MP Anifah Aman this morning.
Besides these two, Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal and Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali have also left the party.
A viral list of 17 Umno lawmakers, which includes Khairy, said to be quitting the party has been going round social media.
Umno under Barisan Nasional won 54 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election on May 9, but five MPs have since quit. – September 19, 2018.
