We are not extremists, Hadi tells MCA

MCA shouldn’t worry about PAS as it is not an extremist party, said Abdul Hadi Awang.

“They shouldn’t be concerned about what PAS fights for. PAS is not an extremist party like what has been reported,” Hadi told reporters at the end of the 64th PAS congress (muktamar) in Kuala Terengganu today.

“We run our party based on existing rules and we are against extremist groups.”

He said that PAS was willing to meet MCA leaders to explain their stand.

Chinese party MCA had voiced concerns after Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN would accept cooperation with PAS.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said that the party was unaware of Umno’s plans although Zahid said he had discussed the issue with MCA.

“I have said previously that MCA will not work with PAS. We have always been firm on this and there will be no alliance with them,” said Liow at the MCA Federal Territory annual general meeting yesterday.

The party, however, has not complained about the PAS support it received during the recent by-election in Balakong. – September 16, 2018.
