BUSINESSMAN Deepak Jaikishan has claimed that he has audio and video proof of lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Umno’s Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim perverting justice in the suit of private investigator P. Balasubramaniam.
Deepak, who lodged a police report on the matter yesterday at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, said Shafee was engaged by former prime minister Najib Razak to represent him in the suit against the lawyer’s wishes.
He said that he also had testified in court that Shafee was forced upon him by Najib.
In his police report, he also alleged that Azeez, the former Tabung Haji chairman, had interfered in the suit filed by Balasubramaniam’s widow over the murder of Mongolian interpreter Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Balasubramaniam’s widow, A. Santamil Selvi, had sued Deepak along with Najib, his wife Rosmah Mansor and six others for losses as result of their exile to India in 2008.
Santamil Selvi said their exile was triggered after Balasubramaniam made a second statutory declaration on Altantuya’s murder, absolving Najib and the rest.
In response to the suit, Deepak filed a defence statement on October 25 last year which claimed that Najib and Rosmah were behind Balasubramaniam’s exile to India.
However, a second defence statement was filed for Deepak by Shafee, which said Najib and Rosmah were not involved.

Deepak said Najib had instructed Shafee to prevent him from being cross-examined over his conflicting defence statements on three occasions.
This was done by admitting him (Deepak) to a government hospital and a private hospital in the Klang Valley, and then a private hospital in New Delhi on different dates.
“The day before the cross-examination, I was asked to meet Shafee at his office. He asked me not to appear and get a government medical certificate.
“As I was under continuous intimidation by Najib and his allies, I was forced to go to UKM Cheras,” he said.
Deepak said Shafee had told the court that he couldn’t attend because he was coughing blood, “which was a blatant lie” as he didn’t want him to testify.
He said Azeez had also met him at Shafee’s office and warned him about the “implications of giving true testimony”.
After refusing to give false testimony, Deepak said he was instructed to get admitted to Pantai Hospital.
This was facilitated by Azeez though a doctor her knew there, Deepak added.
After the court told Shafee it would not longer accept further postponements by medical certificates, Deepak said he was then told to go to New Delhi for treatment when he was in fact fine and healthy.
Deepak said Najib, Azeez and Shafee were guilty of being in contempt of court and perverting the course of justice.
