PAS will field a candidate in the Port Dickson by-election if Barisan Nasional abstains, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said there should not be any walkovers or easy wins in a democracy.
“We do not want to give him a free victory. If others don’t stand, we will,” said Hadi during a press conference in Kuala Terengganu today.
“At the very least, it should be a joint-exercise. Whether we win or lose is a separate matter,” said the 70-year-old.
Yesterday, Hadi said PAS will treat the by-election as a joint-exercise with BN although it did not plan on fielding a candidate in Port Dickson.
BN and Umno have campaigned for one another in the last two by-elections in Sg Kandis and Seri Setia.
Although, PAS did not campaign in Balakong where MCA contested against DAP, its leaders instructed their members to vote for the Chinese party.
The Port Dickson parliamentary seat fell vacant on Wednesday after Danyal Balagopal Abdullah resigned to make way for Anwar to contest and return to active politics. – September 15, 2018.
