UMNO will be present at the PAS central muktamar, or convention, to be held in Terengganu this month, said Ismail Sabri, as ties continue to warm between the two former foes.

The Umno vice-president said that PAS may also attend Umno’s general assembly, also to be held this month.

“If Umno is invited to attend the congress, we will be present, and I’ve been informed by PAS deputy president (Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man) that if PAS is invited, PAS will also attend.

“I’m announcing that Umno has invited PAS and I believe PAS will invite Umno. So, we will be attending each other’s meetings,” he told a press conference with Selangor PAS chairman Sallehin Mukhyi at the Selangor PAS headquarters in Shah Alam today.

Umno is backing the Islamist party candidate in the Seri Setia by-election while PAS had backed Umno in the recent Sg Kandis by-election.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and Tuan Ibrahim campaigned at a rally last Friday for PAS’ Seri Setia by-election candidate, Halimah Ali.

On whether the two parties had sent the invitation letters, Ismail and Sallehin said they would check with their respective party secretary-generals.

On future cooperation between the two parties, Ismail said the matter would be discussed at the Umno general assembly.

“But in terms of discussions and so on, we will discuss our direction with regards to PAS later,” Ismail said.

“So far, there is nothing (confirmed). It’s waiting to be discussed at the meeting later,” said Sallehin. – September 6, 2018.
