MCA was criticised in Balakong last night for backing former prime minister Najib Razak although it has now changed its tune now.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said parties, such as MCA and MIC, brushed aside allegations about the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal while they were in government.
“But now that they have lost, they want it investigated in Parliament,” Gobind told some 100 predominantly Indian supporters.
He was referring to the reopening of the 1MDB investigations by the Public Accounts Committee on August 16.
The motion to reopen the case received all-round support from Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and PAS lawmakers.
“So, can you trust them now?” asked the Puchong MP.
He also reminded the Balakong voters in Taman Putra Budiman that parties, such as MCA, similarly asked them to vote for BN and back Najib in GE14.
“But just months later, MCA doesn’t even want to use the BN flag and will contest with their own logo. Yet, in Parliament they are together with BN,” said Gobind.

MCA will, for the first time, contest an election using its own logo in the Balakong by-election.
Gobind said that BN had also mismanaged the country’s finances although it had brought development to the country.
“The government is supposed to refund GST money to traders and businesses. But after taking over, we found that there was no money left in the trust fund for GST refunds.
“Where has the money gone?”
The other speakers included Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran and Selangor exco V. Ganabatirau.
The Balakong state assembly seat fell vacant following the death of Eddie Ng in a road accident on July 20.
Wong Siew Ki (PH) faces Tan Chee Teong (MCA) in the state seat. In the last elections, Ng won by 35,538 votes against BN’s Lim Chin Wah and PAS’ Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali.
This is also the first by-election where PAS has pledged its support for MCA. – August 31, 2018.
