Anwar ready to work with Dr Mahathir for sake of nation

INCOMING PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he is ready to strengthen ties with his one-time political nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the sake of the nation.

In his first appearance at a Bersatu event, Anwar said his commitment to work with Dr Mahathir, who is also the prime minister, was due to his love for the country.

“The focus is now to develop the country. Dr Mahathir has agreed with the people’s demand.

“Many said Dr Mahathir and I can’t work side by side but the both of us have agreed to cooperate because we love this country,” Anwar said at a Bersatu Hari Raya celebration in Klang.

Anwar, who was jailed under the Dr Mahathir regime in 1998, added he would ensure that Dr Mahathir’s leadership is solid.

“I will make sure that Dr Mahathir’s leadership remains strong and solid so it can continue to focus on nation building and we can continue to grow without problems.

“We did not expect such a terrible mess and such scandals left behind by the previous government. It is our responsibility now to fix it,” Anwar said in front of 200 Bersatu supporters.

Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir and president Muhyiddin Yassin were due to be present at the event but they did not turn up.

The relationship between Anwar and Dr Mahathir has been a hot topic for the past few weeks as Anwar’s loyalists in PKR have fired shots at the 93-year-old leader, saying that there are plots to prevent the PKR leader from taking over as prime minister.

PKR’s Kapar MP, Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid had openly slammed  Dr Mahathir and Daim Zainuddin for trying to kill off Anwar’s political career for the second time.

Anwar has rebutted the allegation while Dr Mahathir has denied any plots to remove his former deputy.

Abdullah Sani recently apologised to Dr Mahathir following a request from Anwar. – August 26, 2018.

    • Anwar is really glad that Dr. Mahathir's know-how & experience is there to help put things right. Anwar lacks this? Will he then delay becoming Prime Minister in 2020? And let Dr.M continue with this other kind of "reformasi" ?..
