Umno working with PAS to protect race, religion, rulers, says Lokman

UMNO is working with PAS in the Seri Setia by-election to defend Malay rights, Islam, and the Malay monarchy, said Barisan Nasional’s Lokman Noor Adam.

He described last night’s ceramah as a “historic” moment as it was rare for the two parties to share a stage in a common cause – to throw their support behind PAS candidate Dr Halimah Ali.

Dr Halimah will take on Pakatan Harapan’s Halimey Abu Bakar in the September 8 by-election which was brought about by the death of PKR’s Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin on August 2 after a battle with cancer.

In GE14, PH won a four-cornered fight with a 19,732 majority against BN’s Yusoff HM Haniff (9,878 votes), PAS’ Mohd Ghazali Daud (4,563 votes) and independent candidate Dr S. Vignes (217 votes).

“Umno felt it was about time it collaborated with PAS, to sit at the same table, share the same stage to ensure Islam, Malays, and the Malay rulers (raja-raja Melayu) are protected,” he said at last night’s ceramah in Taman Desaria, Petaling Jaya.

The Sungai Kandis by-election candidate, who lost to PKR, said BN’s defeat in the 14th general election was a sign that Umno and PAS  should work together to save the country.

“Why should we separate? It is time we worked together in any way possible for ensure a one-on-one fight (against the government).

“PAS will stay PAS and Umno remains Umno but it is important that when PAS contests, Umno does not, and that when Umno does, PAS does not.”

About 50 people showed up at the ceramah last night despite a drizzle.

Lokman said during its six decades in power, BN had never allowed anyone of any race to question the position of Islam as the federal religion, Malay rights and the royal institution, but all that had changed with the new PH administration.

BN lost federal power to Pakatan Harapan in the 14th general election which saw PAS win 18 federal seats.

Lokman said if PAS won the Seri Setia by-election, it would send a message to PH that it should fulfil the 10 promises it had pledged to do within 100 days in office.

Meanwhile Dr Halimah said people were expecting “magic” to happen when they voted for PH in GE14.

“They (PH) promised that the cost of living would be reduced, study loans abolished, no more toll. Everything sounded great.

“However after 100 days, they said they cannot fulfil (the promises) and gave a lot of excuses,” she said, adding that she was not one to make promises. – August 25, 2018.

    • They do not even know how to jump in to the river. They need help in anything and everything. They can even help their own race as their corrupted leaders are bullying and plunder more from their ignorance, they can't even promote their religion where satistically all the vices and crime are highest from their non tolerated teaching and lastly the Royal Household are just expandable, for when in needs highly supported and discarded when not in sync with them with all kind of abusive languages thrown in. What cooperation more like a misfit group.

  • I don;t see from where these crazy politicians see threats to race, religion and rulers. Everything related to the Malay race is protected by the laws of the country and constitution. Majority of the law makers on both sides of the divide are Malays and Muslims. The rulers are also the heads deciding on all religious matters. of the religion. .

  • GE14, even with 3 cornered contests or more, was won by Pakatan. If there had just been 2 cornered fights like the current contest? What then might the result have been?..
