ANWAR Ibrahim today put an end to all talks of a plot to deny him the prime minister’s post, as he thanked Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid for apologising over such claims against the incoming PKR president.
“I welcome his (Abdullah) retraction. I advise everyone involved in the campaign not to abuse their power,” Anwar said outside the courtroom earlier.
Anwar said the matter was settled and urged PKR members to strengthen the party structure.
“Yes, I thanked him for making the apology. It is settled. We have to move forward to make the party stronger and we have to ensure the party has solid structure.”
Last Tuesday, Abdullah apologised to Dr Mahathir for alleging that he and Daim Zainuddin were plotting to prevent Anwar from becoming the next prime minister. Abdullah also an apology letter to Dr Mahathir’s office in Putrajaya.
He said Anwar had assured him that Dr Mahathir was committed to the Pakatan Harapan consensus, where Anwar will succeed the prime minister in two years.
“After being advised and instructed by Anwar, I was made to understand that (my remarks) have damaged the prime minister’s reputation.
“I would like to apologise… I hope my worry that there are efforts to thwart the transfer of power by Tun Mahathir is not true,” said Abdullah, a three-term PKR federal lawmaker.
Abdullah, who is campaigning for Rafizi Ramli to be deputy president in the PKR elections, alleged while campaigning that Dr Mahathir and Daim preferred incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to succeed as prime minister.
Both Dr Mahathir and Daim have denied the allegation. – August 24, 2018.
