THE Council of Eminent Persons will not be disbanded as it is still needed, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The prime minister said its services would be needed until all the problems are solved.
“It will not be dissolved. They say they have to come to an end, but I haven’t decided.
“I never said it would be (dissolved) in 100 days. I still need their services,” he said after the launch of the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur hospital.
Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism director Cynthia Gabriel recently said the council would be disbanded along with the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) special task force.
Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin heads the council to assist in the administration of the country.
Gabriel, who is part of the council investigating 1MDB, said the committee was supposed to be disbanded when Pakatan Harapan reaches 100 days in power on Friday.
She said the 1MDB committee was to be dissolved this coming Saturday along with the council, as its mandate was expected to end after 100 days.
The 1MDB committee is led by former attorney-general Abu Talib Othman.
The other committee members include PwC Risk Assurance Services partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz and Partners’ seniorpartner, Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar and Financial Services Authority Indonesia senior adviser, Faris Rabidin.
