DR Halimah Ali was presented as the PAS candidate for the Seri Setia state by-election, in Petaling Jaya, yesterday night..
The doctor by training was formerly the Selat Klang assemblyman. The Selangor exco for education during the tenure of menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, she was one of the four PAS members who quit their posts in the state government in 2014 in support of Khalid.
Dr Halimah’s first election contest was for the Selat Kelang state seat in 2004, when she lost to Umno’s Norliza Ahmad. She came back to defeat Norliza in the 2008 general election, and successfully defended the seat in 2014.
In her speech yesterday, Dr Halimah urged PAS supporters to vote for the party so that there was a strong opposition in Selangor.
“We need to be solid even though Pakatan Harapan is the state government. We must remind them that they cannot ignore the people,” she told about 400 party supporters at Desa Mentari.
“We must be the check and balance. Stand by me and I will stand by you.” – August 16, 2018.
