DR Mahathir Mohamad today challenged his accusers to back their claims with proof that he and his adviser, Daim Zainuddin are working to prevent Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister. and wish to stop PKR president Anwar Ibrahim from becoming prime minister.
“They should ask the person who started the allegation to prove it,” said Dr Mahathir, after attending the cabinet’s special committee meeting on anti-corruption, in Putrajaya.
The prime minister, who is the Bersatu chairman, said he was not one to meddle in another party’s affairs.
Dr Mahathir was responding to PKR leaders claiming he and Daim were plotting to stop PKR president Anwar from becoming the next PM.
PKR leaders aligned to Rafizi Ramli, who is challenging Azmin Ali for the PKR deputy presidency, have claimed of such a plot.
Last night, Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad said Dr Mahathir and Daim had “sponsored” some PKR leaders to destroy the party from within.
“I know Dr Mahathir’s evil character, (and he has) Daim’s help. Do not believe them. See how Dr Mahathir and Daim used our leaders in PKR as their puppets to bring down the party,” he said during a campaign event in Ayer Keroh, Malacca.
Rafizi’s supporters have based their campaigns for their man on the premise that giving Azmin the deputy presidency was tantamount to stopping Anwar from being the next prime minister.
Earlier today, Kapar MP Abdullah Sani said he had proof that there was a conspiracy to bar Anwar from the prime minister’s office.
“Once I am done visiting the respective states, I will be able to show proof that there are such people, outside forces, who have been trying to stall Anwar’s smooth transition to the prime minister’s office,” said Abdullah, who had previously named Daim as the person behind such a plot.
Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan, meanwhile, has urged PKR leaders to take a firm stance against members who malign the heads of other PH component parties.
“PKR’s top leadership should be firm in this matter. They need to prove that they don’t agree with such behaviour otherwise they will be seen as condoning slander,” he said in a statement today. – August 13, 2018.
