PKR members will be destroying hopes of seeing party president Anwar Ibrahim become prime minister if they vote for Azmin Ali to be his deputy in the coming party elections, said Abdullah Sani.

Abdullah, who is on the Reformasi 20 Tahun (20 Years of Reform) team led by PKR deputy president hopeful Rafizi Ramli, accused Azmin of harbouring ambition to become the prime minister when Dr Mahathir Mohamad steps down.

Abdullah is contesting for a seat on the central executive council.

“If you want to see Anwar become prime minister, choose Rafizi as deputy president,” said the Kapar MP.

“If you don’t want to see Anwar as prime minister, then choose Azmin,” he said at a gathering of some 300 supporters and Rafizi’s running mates in Johor last night.

“Azmin has the support of Daim (Zainuddin) and Dr Mahathir… this is obvious in their statements.”

Johor kicks off the campaign trail for camp Rafizi in the battle for PKR’s number two spot.

Johor is among the states with the most PKR members, with 38,600.

Abdullah said in his speech that a group of leaders in PKR had previously attempted but failed to remove PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“Can we just stand by and watch these despicable parties plot to remove the president… don’t allow them to betray Anwar and to profit by it.

Fuziah Salleh and Rodziah Ismail who are gunning for the leadership posts in the women’s wing, and Akmal Nasir, who is running for the PKR Youth chief post and a seat on the central executive council, were present.

Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is also on Rafizi’s team and who will be defending her vice-presidency, absent.

Subang member of parliament and central executive council member candidate Wong Chen cast aspersions on the integrity of Azmin’s team by pointing out that his running mates had yet to declare their assets.

“Us at this team have declared assets, but what of the other side? If somebody wants to pay for our hotel stay, we will ask first. New Malaysia cannot be like this; to fight corruption, we have to demand justice,” he said.

Former Kapar MP G. Manivannan said even though the party remained united, it was the members’ responsibility to voice out against wrongdoing, adding that elements of corruption had already seeped into the party.

“It’s true that this is an election within a ‘family’ but to me, if my family does something wrong, it’s still wrong.

“In the PKR family, wrong is always wrong. Black is black and white is white. Don’t let there be grey areas. We reject money politics. We will raise noble individuals to lead our party,” he said. – August 11, 2018.

  • What has voting Rafizi got to do with Anwar's prime ministership? What is wrong with Azmin?

  • Rafizi and Anwar are becoming untrustworthy, deceitful and power crazy with preconceived unfounded slandering just for self interest and no inkling for country greatness. poor azmin is slammed for just doing his job to rid the country from debts.....Rafizi is just acting like a spoilt child and Anwar is the pampering father.
