THE Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has filed an appeal against the Shah Alam High Court’s decision to allow the release of Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos on a RM20,000 bail with three sureties.

The head of the AGC Appellate and Trial Division, Mohd Hanafiah Zakaria, said the notice of appeal was filed yesterday, and will be heard at the Court of Appeal.

The prosecution can file an appeal within 14 days of the date the decision was made. High court judge Yazid Mustafa made the decision on July 31.

It was reported that Jamal, who was detained at Sg Buloh Prison for 27 days, immediately paid the bail amount, and was released on the same day.

Yazid made the decision after allowing Jamal’s application, filed through his lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, for a judicial review on the Ampang magistrates’ court’s decision on July 30 to revoke the bail orders issued to the Umno leader for fleeing a hospital while under police custody and for two trespassing offences. – Bernama, August 7, 2018.
