AFTER spending almost a month in Sg Buloh Prison, Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos was today released on a RM20,000 bail with three sureties.

High court judge Yazid Mustafa made the decision after allowing Jamal’s application, which he filed through lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, for a judicial review on the Ampang magistrates’ court’s decision yesterday to revoke bail orders issued to him for fleeing a hospital while in police custody and two trespassing offences.

Jamal was granted a RM10,000 bail with one surety for fleeing the hospital.

Yazid agreed with Shafee’s submissions that for the trespassing offences, under Section 448 of the Penal Code, the magistrate did not have discretion to revoke the bail orders, even though the explanation given by Jamal was deemed unsatisfactory.

“On these grounds, I allow the accused bail of RM5,000 with one surety for each case under Section 448.”

Jamal was also represented by lawyer Mohd Imran Tamrin, while deputy public prosecutors Mohd Fairus Johari and Fatin Hadni Khairuddin appeared for the prosecution. – Bernama, July 31, 2018.

  • Malaysian law just protect culprits and law breakers victimising the innocent and our judges are just not doing the right thing. When I attend court as witness the judge is always late and very quick to go for break. She also didn't follow case cue and call as she wished. I have no faith at all with Malaysian Court at all
