CANDIDATES for the PKR Youth chief post are hoping for a clean campaign ahead of party polls that will run between September and October.

Two candidates – Youth strategy director and Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir, and Anwar Ibrahim’s former special officer and Kota Anggerik assemblyman, Najwan Halimi – have submitted their nomination papers to contest for the top post in the Youth wing at PKR’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

Deputy Youth chief Afif Bahardin is another candidate expected to submit his nomination papers for the wing’s top spot later today.

“We are not strange to each other and I think it’s a good (contest) because I expect everyone to have a clean campaign and focus on the issues, rather than on personal attacks.

“When I see the individuals contesting for AMK (Angkatan Muda Keadilan) posts… I see hope for the next generation in the party,” Akmal told reporters after submitting his nomination papers.

Najwan said he viewed the three-way fight as a friendly rivalry between Youth leaders.

“This contest is not personal in nature or about supporting any camps. It’s a healthy competition.

“For me, I’m offering a better and united leadership with integrity.

“I want to offer an alternative to Youth members,” he said.

As of 12pm, the party election committee has only received two nominations for the PKR presidency and deputy presidency from Anwar Ibrahim and Rafizi Ramli respectively.

For the vice-president’s post, William Leong and Michael Tamil have submitted their nomination papers, while another 22 members and leaders are confirmed running for the party’s central committee.

Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh has successfully submitted her nominations papers to head the Wanita wing. – August 5, 2018.
