VOTER turnout for the Sungai Kandis by-election in Selangor appears low at 31% as at 1pm, according to sources from the Election Commission.
The turnout is lower than the 14th general election that had around 45% before noon, although polling day was set on a Wednesday.
In Sungai Kandis, some 85.79% or 43,585 out of the 50,800 had voted in the four-corner contest on May 9.
In May, PKR’s Shuhaimie Shafiei won 23,998 votes compared to Barisan Nasional’s Kamaruzzaman Johari (11,518), PAS’ Mohd Yusof Abdullah (7,573) and PRM’s Hanafiah Husin (76).
This by-election comes after Shuhaimie died on July 2 and the contest is between PKR’s Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and BN’s Lokman Adam with an independent K Murthy, who has not shown up since nomination day (July 21). – August 4, 2018.
