BROADCAST journalist Yunna Tan is tipped to be the DAP candidate in the Balakong by-election, party officials said.

Tan last week resigned her job at Astro AEC, where she hosts the prime-time Chinese current affairs programmes Evening Edition and Prime Talk.

Selangor DAP secretary Ean Yong Hian Wah did not deny talk that Tan was a frontrunner for the seat, which is vacant following the death of Eddie Ng on July 20, in a road accident.

Tan’s name had cropped up in the run up to the May 9 general election but she was not fielded.

The Malaysian Insight could not reach Tan for comment.

In the last election, Ng won Balakong by a landslide, securing 77.5% of the total votes. The MCA candidate polled 10.9% of the vote, behind PAS which polled 11.6 %.

Nomination day for Balakong is on August 18. Polling will take place on Sept 8.

The by-election comes on the heels of the Sungai Kandis poll tomorrow which was also vacated following the death of its elected representative. – August 3, 2018.
