THE Putrajaya magistrates’ court extended the remand order for an aide to Rosmah Mansor, who had allegedly solicited money from a company awarded a project to install solar panels in Sarawak schools.

Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim allowed the 44-year-old’s remand to continue until Sunday, the Star reports today.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had earlier applied for a seven-day remand extension.

“But after weighing the merits of their argument, the magistrate only allowed an extension of two days,” the paper said, quoting the former aide’s lawyer, Ridha Adha Subri.

It was reported previously that an ex-officer to former prime minister Najib Razak was remanded four days from Tuesday to assist investigations into the project to install solar panels in Sarawak schools.

MACC director Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the arrest of the 44-year-old.

The man was arrested on Monday after he was called to the MACC headquarters to give his statement.

It was reported that a former top leader of the country signed the project, valued at RM1.25 billion, for the installation of solar panels in 369 schools in Sarawak.

On July 11, several media outlets reported that the previous administration had awarded the solar hybrid project to a Bintulu-based car rental firm.

MACC has already arrested three individuals, including a company director, to facilitate investigations. – July 13, 2018.
